KS1 Football Competition

This group of Year 2's made me very proud yesterday when they represented Denby Free at Belper in the KS1 5-a-side football competition. The children played so well together and we won three of our games, we drew another and just for balance we lost a couple too. Well done boys you were amazing!

Dance Platform

Three groups of talented performers from Denby Free represented the school at the AVSSP's 'Dance Platform' event in November.  The event is designed to showcase dances from all across Amber Valley schools and celebrate one another's creativity.  We had two mixed groups of KS2 dancers and a duet of Amelia and Charlotte.  Mrs Melton took the children to the event and was so proud at how they conducted themselves; even saying that other schools commented on their performances and how much they were supporting others.  That makes us all so proud!  Well done dancers!

Year 5/6 Basketball Competition

Six brilliant basketballers represented Denby Free at Ripley Academy in AVSSP's basketball competition.  The competition was tough as we'd entered the large schools competition, instead of the small schools. but we were up to the challenge!

All of the children were TRULY OUTSTANDING and I am so proud to say that we won ALL of our matches and the entire tournament.  We even got through to the basketball finals, something we've never achieved before.

Hannah, Josh, Alfie, Eva, Josh and Scarlett, you were incredible!  We are so proud of our CHAMPIONS!

Year 3/4 Handball Competition

Six children from years three and four travelled to Belper Leisure Centre to represent Denby Free in a handball competition.  Mrs Bell took the children and was so impressed with their skill, teamwork and perseverance.  Mrs Bell even got so involved giving coaching advice that she distracted Toby, our goalkeeper, and he let in a goal!  The team did so well and won and drew some matches.  Well done Denby Free!!!

Key Stage 1 Handball

The Key Stage 1 children competed brilliantly at the Handball competition. They soon picked up the rules, were scoring goals and winning games. They represented the school wonderfully. Thank you to the children and parents.

Year 3/4 Sportshall Athletics

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the Year 3 and 4's who went along to the Sportshall Athletics Competition at Belper Leisure Centre and became champions for 22-23. There were 13 schools in the competition and the children competed in all the events, winning many including some of the individual events. They encouraged each other and thoroughly deserved the win and they were a credit to the school. Well done!

Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics

Our year five and six Sportshall Athletics team absolutely smashed it at Belper Leisure Centre on Monday.  Nine children competed in three field events (standing long jump, chest push and speed bounce) and three different relays against TEN other schools!  We worked so hard and supported each other so much and our effort paid off as we placed third out of eleven schools.

Amazing results from Denby Free!

KS1 Sportshall Athletics Competition

04.10.22 - Wow, the Year 1's and 2's along with our amazing Reception child did a wonderful job representing Denby Free School at the Athletics competition yesterday. They were speed bouncing, long jumping and throwing followed by a number of different obstacle races. Well done to all involved you made both myself and the parents very proud.

KS2 Boys and Girls Football

We kicked off a new year of competitions in style, by taking two brilliant teams to the AVSSP KS2 Football tournaments.  We took both a boys' and girls' team and they both did fantastically well!

Representing Denby Free for the boys were Harley, Josh, Toby, Isaac, Jack and our captain Alfie.  The boys won two games and lost two games in their group, with incredible goals scored by Alfie.  The team's journey ended in the knockout stages, but they worked so well as a team and made me incredibly proud.

Denby Free girls were Lola, Grace, Eva, Isla, Matilda and our captain Scarlett.  They started off with a fabulous win, with two goals from Scarlett then went on to draw two games and lose one.  They were so energetic and positive, which lead them to being awarded the SPIRIT OF THE GAMES AWARD! Well done girls, so proud of you!

Another super evening of sport for Denby Free.
