Denby Free Football Festival!

Inspired by the World Cup, Denby Free took part in its first ever whole school football tournament.  We had eleven teams: Australia, USA, Croatia, Brazil, Cameroon, Japan, Belgium, France, Iran, Serbia and Switzerland.  Each team was made up of children from every class and captained by one of our wonderful year sixes.  

There were three 'pitches' around school which each hosted a mini tournament, refereed by Mrs Foulke, Mr Slaney and Miss Hunt.  AVSSP leant us some goals, footballs, which helped make the tournament extra special.  It was AMAZING to see the children working together, encouraging one another and demonstrating some incredible football skills.  All of the staff were genuinely so impressed!

At the end of the festival, we gathered in the hall to celebrate some of the achievements and stand-out efforts on each pitch.  Awards were given out for things such as great skill, fantastic encouragement, incredible determination and inspirational leadership. 

It was a fantastic afternoon and something we'll definitely be doing again!  We are so proud of our sporting superstars.  Watch the video below to enjoy a few special memories of the day.
