Derby Diocese, DBE and SIAMS
Our ethos, values and SIAMS at Denby Free.
Denby Free CofE VA Primary School is a Voluntary Aided Church of England school, with a deep commitment to providing a nurturing, Christian environment for its pupils. Our school's vision and values are at the heart of everything we do, guiding our approach to education and shaping the experiences of our school community.
Promoting Wellbeing and Flourishing
At Denby Free, our Christian vision is "to inspire, nurture and educate our children to shine within a happy, caring Christian community." This vision is woven throughout our curriculum and extracurricular activities, ensuring that the development of the whole child - their academic, emotional, spiritual, and social needs - is a priority.
Our compassionate culture reflects the biblical call to "carry each other's burdens." Staff are trained to recognise and support the mental health and wellbeing needs of our pupils, creating a safe and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Regular check-ins, mindfulness sessions, and access to pastoral support ensure that the individual needs of our children are met.
Enriching Spiritual Development
Collective worship is a central part of our school day, providing opportunities for spiritual growth, community building, and reflection on our Christian values. Our pupils engage enthusiastically in worship, leading sessions, sharing their own prayers, and exploring the teachings of the Bible.
Furthermore, our strong partnerships with local churches and faith communities enrich our pupils' understanding of diverse beliefs and traditions. Regular visits, workshops, and joint events deepen their appreciation for the multicultural world in which they live.
Delivering High-Quality Religious Education
Our well-structured religious education (RE) curriculum fosters a deep understanding and respect for Christianity, as well as other world faiths. Lessons are carefully designed to engage pupils, challenge their thinking, and develop their knowledge and skills. Pupils demonstrate a mature grasp of complex theological concepts and an ability to engage in thoughtful discussions about faith and belief.
Through our commitment to SIAMS, Denby Free continues to nurture the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of our pupils, equipping them to be confident, compassionate, and well-rounded individuals who are ready to make a positive impact on the world.
