SEND at Denby Free CE (Aided) Primary School
At Denby Free CE (Aided) Primary School, we are committed to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for all our pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Our school's vision and values are centred around inspiring, nurturing, and educating our children to shine within a happy, caring Christian community.
Identifying and Supporting SEND
We have an up-to-date Inclusion Policy that outlines our approach to SEND provision. All school staff are involved in the process of identifying SEND, and we work closely with parents and carers to ensure the needs of every child are met.
If a concern is raised about a child's education, the class teacher will be the first point of contact. They will then advise whether the input of the SEND team is necessary. Depending on the individual needs, the following steps may be taken:
- Referral to an external agency or service, in conjunction with the class teacher and with the support of adults at home
- Adding the child to the SEN register or watchlist, if more appropriate
- Application for additional funding as part of a graduated response, if deemed necessary by the SEND team
- More regular observations of the child by the SEND team to monitor progress and assess ongoing need
- Creation of a 'one page profile' for the child, outlining their needs and the necessary adjustments to support them
