Our Denby Free curriculum is based on knowledge and skills that are required by the National Curriculum, designed with pupils’ learning and enjoyment at its centre. We recognise that a curriculum should always be broad, balanced and offer pupils opportunities to grow as individuals, enabling them to positively contribute as members of our community as well as becoming lifelong learners.

Our school values and ‘Flourish and Shine’ attributes underpin everything we do. This gives our children an opportunity to take risks, take part in learning that builds on previous skills and knowledge; creating analytical thinkers who reflect on their next steps in their learning. There is a high focus on developing children’s spirituality, their moral, social and cultural understanding as well as British Values which are explicit and woven through our curriculum. 

At Denby Free, we recognise the importance of tailoring our curriculum to the needs of our pupils, recognising their individual starting points. Through a combination of quality first learning techniques and teaching, we are committed to offering pupils new and exciting experiences; taking place in and out of the classroom, in our community and beyond. 

In our Long-Term Overviews for each class / year group, we focus on:

• Vocabulary broadening and enrichment 

• Discovering new experiences and trying new things 

• Developing, encouraging and nurturing talents 

• Being proud of their heritage and its link and place within the world 

• Making meaningful connections between subjects.
