RE
At Denby Free we strive to ensure that RE is meaningful and engaging so that all pupils have access to learning in every lesson and feel involved and confident in each of the units and all the skills they are learning. The children learn to articulate clearly and coherently their personal beliefs, ideas, values and experiences while respecting the right of others to differ.
As a church school, we are dedicated to integrating Christian values and the essence of Christianity into the very fabric of our educational and spiritual life. Our curriculum is designed to explore core Christian teachings, such as love, justice, forgiveness, and service, not just as religious concepts, but as fundamental moral guides for daily living. This is achieved through thoughtful lessons, reflective class discussions, and practical examples that resonate with the children's experiences.
Our daily Collective Worship is inclusive and carefully planned to ensure all children can access it, regardless of their background or belief. We use accessible language, compelling storytelling (often drawing on biblical narratives and contemporary examples), music, and quiet reflection to create a space where every child can engage with deep spiritual and moral understanding. By focusing on universal human experiences and ethical dilemmas through a Christian lens, we help pupils to develop their own sense of morality, empathy, and spiritual well-being, enabling them to flourish as thoughtful and compassionate citizens.
We intend for pupils to be curious and independent by learning about and from religions and world views in local, national and global contexts.
Their curiosity allows them to discover, explore and consider different answers to these questions. The factual knowledge the children acquire is embedded in the engaging teaching and learning as it meaningful and related to the children's own experiences.
