PE and Sport Premium
PE & Sports Premium at Denby Free
Inspiring, nurturing, and educating our children to shine through physical activity.
Our Vision for Sport
At Denby Free, we believe in nurturing the whole child. Our PE curriculum is designed to foster not just physical fitness, but the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of every pupil. We strive to raise aspirations and encourage a lifelong love for a healthy, active lifestyle.
The Denby PE Offer
We are proud to provide a minimum of 2 hours of high-quality physical activity every week. Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to build confidence in:
- Fundamental Movement: Gymnastics, dance, and athletics.
- Team Games: Netball, basketball, football, and hockey.
- Specialist Coaching: We partner with the Amber Valley School Sport Partnership (AVSSP) to bring elite coaching and competitive opportunities to our pupils.
Inclusive and Engaging Approach
Our approach to PE and sports is underpinned by our commitment to inclusivity. We believe that all children should have the chance to participate, regardless of their abilities or disabilities. By providing a broad base of learning experiences, we aim to inspire and engage every child, allowing them to reach their full potential.
Our extra-curricular diet
Beyond the classroom, our children enjoy a rotating calendar of clubs including Multi-sports, Basketball, and Netball, led by both our dedicated school staff and AVSSP experts.
Denby Free came 1st in the Amber Valley School Sports Partnership Champion Schools, small schools category for last academic year.
Champion Schools is a participation-based award recognising those schools who have provided the most competitive opportunities for their pupils to take part in sport against other schools.
We did do rather well in a lot of the competitions too!

Developing Young Leaders
Our Year 6 pupils take centre stage as Sports Leaders. By working alongside our lunchtime supervisors, they:
- Organize inclusive games for younger peers.
- Model positive sporting behaviour and "fair play."
- Foster a vibrant culture of active play every single day.
Sport Premium Impact
We utilize the government’s Sports Premium funding to ensure our provision is inclusive, challenging, and sustainable. This funding allows us to:
- Upskill Staff: Ensuring high-quality teaching across all year groups.
- Broaden Horizons: Introducing children to a wider variety of sports and activities.
- Enhance Inclusion: Providing equipment and sessions accessible to children of all abilities.
