PE and Sport Premium
PE and Sports Premium
At Denby Free CofE VA Primary School, we are committed to providing high-quality physical education and sports opportunities for all our pupils. As a Church of England primary school, we believe in nurturing the whole child, fostering their spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development alongside their academic progress.
Our vision is to inspire, nurture, and educate our children to shine within a happy, caring community. This ethos is reflected in our approach to PE and sports, where we strive to raise the aspirations of all pupils, regardless of their abilities or disabilities, by encouraging them to acquire the skills to perform a variety of physical activities and pursue a healthy, active lifestyle.
The government's Sports Premium funding enables us to enhance our provision, ensuring that our PE curriculum and extracurricular activities are challenging, appropriate, and inclusive. We are dedicated to providing engaging and inspiring opportunities for our pupils to develop their interests and understanding of a broad range of sports.
Curriculum and Extracurricular Provision
At Denby Free, we deliver 2 hours of high-quality physical activity per week through our PE lessons. These sessions are designed to help children acquire the skills and confidence to succeed, both in competitive situations and in their pursuit of a healthy, active lifestyle.
Beyond the curriculum, we offer a diverse range of extracurricular clubs, such as netball, basketball, and multi-sports, which are run by our own staff and an AVSSP coach. These clubs provide further opportunities for our pupils to develop their physical abilities and engage in friendly competition.
Inclusive and Engaging Approach
Our approach to PE and sports is underpinned by our commitment to inclusivity. We believe that all children should have the chance to participate, regardless of their abilities or disabilities. By providing a broad base of learning experiences, we aim to inspire and engage every child, allowing them to reach their full potential.
Developing Leaders and Role Models
To further enhance our provision, we empower our Year 6 pupils to take on the role of Sports Leaders. These young leaders work alongside our lunchtime supervisors to organise and facilitate physical activities during lunchtimes, fostering a culture of active play and healthy competition.
Celebrating Success and Promoting Wellbeing
At Denby Free, we believe in celebrating the achievements of our pupils, both in competitive sports and in their personal development. By recognising and rewarding their efforts, we aim to inspire a lifelong love of physical activity and a commitment to leading a healthy, active lifestyle.
