Health Advice

Friday 20 March 2020

Dear Parents

The Government released the Key Worker list late last night https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision and as such, I am now in a position to offer some clarity on our position and the school’s role moving forward.

The school will offer a skeleton care service for children of essential key workers.

Children with at least one parent or carer who are identified as critical workers by the government can send their children to school if required. I understand this position has changed overnight and us (like you) are trying our best to respond to this ever-changing situation.

The offer is not a blanket offer. It is only for those essential workers who cannot provide care without us. With this in mind, please consider if you feel it is necessary for your child to attend our non-compulsory emergency childcare provision. No schools will be issuing any fines for non-attendance during this period. If you are able to make alternative childcare arrangements, please make this a consideration – fewer people coming in to school will help stop spread the virus.

It is important to underline that schools remain safe places for children. But the fewer children making the journey to school, and the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in wider society and our school family.

If you feel you are a key worker and must have this provision as no other options are available to you (your partner may be asked to prove they are unable to home work if not a key worker), please contact school today. Contact us on 01332 880416. This must be done by 2pm today.

Please bear with us during this time. As you will appreciate, we are not a call centre and you may not get through first time!

Coronovirus Update

Wednesday 18 March 2020

New guidance for households with symptoms
Yesterday, the Government introduced new guidance on whole household isolation in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak:
  • if you live alone and you have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), however mild, stay at home for 7 days from when your symptoms started
  • if you live with others and you or another member of the household have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill. It is likely that people living within a household will infect each other or be infected already. Staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community
  • for anyone in the household who starts displaying symptoms, they need to stay at home for 7 days from when the symptoms appeared, regardless of what day they are on in the original 14-day isolation period.

The symptoms are:
  • A high temperature (37.8 degrees and above)
  • A new, continuous cough

The full stay at home guidance for households with these symptoms can be found here:

Coronovirus Update

Monday 16 March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

Following the guidance from the Government and Department of Education, school will remain open and operating as close to normal as possible.

The latest advice is that anyone experiencing a new cough or high temperature (of 37.8) should self isolate for 7 days. Please contact school if your household are self isolating. If any of these symptoms are suspected by school, we will ask you to collect your child immediately and follow the above guidelines.
Advice is that you do not call 111 or the GP unless your symptoms deteriorate. The idea is that if your child does have the virus it will peak and then start to wane during the 7 days.
This advice will apply to everyone – pupils, staff, parents and carers bringing children to school.

If your child is unwell, please contact school before 9:30am to inform us of their absence. When contacting school, we will require as much detail as possible about the nature of your child’s illness in line with current guidance on the length of absence needed.

In school, we have been carefully planning for this eventuality. Please be assured that we will be doing everything possible to keep school open. However, to do this, we have to be very flexible in our approach.

There is a chance that at some point, we may find that staff need to stay at home. In managing this situation, the children may be:

  • Taught by different staff, perhaps supply teachers
  • Put in to different class groups and or be in a different classroom other than their usual one.
  • Doing activities which are different to those which they would normally be doing.

Also:
  • If catering staff are unwell then we may not be able to provide a hot meal

We have also made the decision to postpone any activities for the rest of this term, that would involve a number of parents, carers and grandparents (some of whom may be vulnerable) coming into the school at the same time, as a precautionary measure.
We will notify you of dates after Easter when we have an update on the situation.

We are continuing to encourage children to wash their hands and consider their personal hygiene. The advice given is that we carry on as normal and speak to the local Public Health teams if we have any concerns.

Derbyshire County Council have set up a microsite with daily updates and information for residents, which might be helpful. https://tinyurl.com/t7aocok Updates from the government can be found at www.gov.uk/coronavirus.

To ensure school can keep in contact with yourselves, please ensure we hold up to date contact information for you.

All further updates will be issued on the school website or through the Teachers 2 Parents text message system.

Thank you in advance for your co-operation with this during a difficult time.

Yours faithfully
