To start the week off in Eagles Class, we learned about disabilities and how even if a person has Down Syndrome, Autism or another disability are valuable people in the world. Yes they might look a little different or act in a certain way but they are different and different is good.
On Tuesday Mrs Barton came in to talk to us about Autism and told us that people with autism may sometimes be a bit sensitive or behave a bit different but these things don't matter because Autistic people have strengths such as remembering interesting facts like all the capital cities in the world or much more, they also think diverse so if they are in a situation they could solve the situation easily.
With Mrs Melton we all watched a video on what happens when a model goes for a photo shoot, the model arrived at work for the day looking beautiful, even without make up and suddenly all these make up artists crowded her and put all this make-up on her. Finally they took the photos and on the photo a man\ women enlarged her eyes made her lips bigger, neck go longer and hair more wavy. We were all horrified, some of us said we felt betrayed, ashamed of society, embarrassed and that it was unreal. We wrote a pledge about something we would do to campaign.
We did some work to show at the end of the week on Friday's assembly about celebrating differences, Neve and Evie did a role play on what a person may react like when they see the image. Also everyone made acrostic poems based on certain words for eg: Diversity, Acceptance, Different, Equality, Unique, Individual and Respect
