This week Eagles have started their Mega Multiplier challenges. There are 5 different stars to achieve, number 1 is the purple star and that is the 2 times table, the 10 times table and the 5 times table. Then the bronze star 3 times table 4 times and 8 times table. The silver award is the 6, 9s and 11s. The gold is 7s and 12S . Finally the Denby free champion badge means that you know all of your times tables up to 15 times 15 and you are a master!
Well it certainly has been a manic week for the Eagles!
This week we were given some money (£20) and challenged to see if we could double it using our maths skills.
Eagles class decided to do a project to make fudge and cake which we would then sell to the parents of Eagles class children. We had to cost out how much of each ingredient we needed and then use our measuring and calculation skills to bake and package our produce. We made boxes from nets and decorated them using our brand designs. On Thursday we had a sale in the hall before school and ALL the stalls sold out before 9am!
We then had to do our accounts and work out our profit. We had a choice of whether to keep all the profit or whether we wanted to donate some to charity. As a class we decided to make a donation to 'Water Aid' as this linked with our 'Africa' topic.
As if this wasn't enough for one week, we then spent Thursday and Friday designing our own maths games! Each group had a maths criteria to follow but could otherwise use their own artistic design skills to create their game. We think you'll agree that we did an amazing job!
This week on Thursday Eagles enjoyed a New Years Disco, including a visit from Gazza and his assistant. There were multiple dance contests. The winners were Evie B, Mia, Jake and Seb who won the GRAND PRIZE! There were goody bags on sale for one pound each and a drink came with it. There were three 'Rockers' they were: Libby, Oliver and Millie.
Our new topic is 'Africa' and we have started a new dance topic in PE with Miss Emily where we are learning some African dance.
Yr6 have also started practising for SATS tests this week.
