Today was another fantastic day of celebrating differences!
Our 'Denby Daily Dilemma' got us all thinking this morning. Would you rather be fire or water? The children gave some excellent answers. Some reasons for picking water were:
'It helps keep people healthy.'
'I could be a part of the ocean.'
'I could be the water in a fireman's hose and help fight fires.'
'I could provide a habitat for many living things in the sea.'
'I could be invisible.'
Whilst some reasoning for fire included:
'I would be warm.'
'I would be beautiful.'
'I could cause havoc!'
'I could attach myself to the end of a stick and help people to see in the dark.'
Which would you be?
Collective Worship was today lead by our very own Celebrating Differences Team. They are helping me to run this week and taking collective worship all by themselves for the majority of the week. The team are Hannah from Sparrows, Sam from Swifts, Toby from Doves, Olivia and Constance from Owls and Lily, William, Neve and Isabelle from Eagles. They did a fabulous job this morning, as they invited everyone to guess what magnificent item was in their suitcase. It proved tricky to get into though, as it was locked with a combination lock! Eventually, we found out that the spectacular item was...a mirror! It was to show us all that we are all absolutely amazing, unique and special.
Collective worship was finished in style, with Doves providing us with a brilliant performance of a song about the great fire of London. It was so special because they used sign language alongside the words to celebrate that some people use it to communicate.
Two members of staff were 'different' today and the children spotted them pretty quickly! Mrs Ward was sporting a sparkly hat and Mrs Kirby was wearing stunning pink glasses and a feather boa! They looked wonderfully different.
Eagles have had a very meaningful couple of days as they have been learning about autism. Today they enjoyed a talk from autism specialist Sam Barton. Miss Herrett was so pleased with the children's considerate responses and thoughtful questions.
Meanwhile, Swifts have been busy making a wonderful snowflake display which celebrates how we are all the same, but beautifully different. Great work Swifts!
Wow! What will tomorrow bring?
